Ink painting of Japanese god of mountain

Ink painting of Japanese god of mountain

In Japanese tradition, mountains are not just landscapes—they are living sanctuaries.
I created this sumi-e (ink wash painting) upon a client's request to explore Yama no Kami, the mountain deity, through a distinctly Japanese lens. Rather than depicting a human-like figure, the god is expressed as a quiet, untamed presence woven into mist, rock, and ancient trees. Traditional calligraphy (shodō) flows alongside the ink, echoing the natural balance of brush and breath.

Hope it will give you some inspirations as well.
